Officials at Princeton have called for an end to the school's annual winter
nude run, after at least five of this years revelers were treated for alcohol
poisoning. Other endangered rites of schwing: Exotic Erotic Ball, Stanford:
The barely clad bash has lost its home after 36 years, though some school
administrators say the school might not oppose something in the same spirit.
The Nude Olympics, Purdue: A single wintry lap in the '50s, the boozing,
fighting and frostbite peaked in the '80s. Purdue began revoking dorm
residency and it slowly disappeared. The Nude Mile, yes in Michigan: Exploded
in 1996 drawing nearly 1,000 runners and 10,000 onlookers some of whom posted
photos on the Internet.  Leading school officials to urge milers to
"reconsider." Yes, the kids just want to have fun. Good thing those schools
don't know about Benny and the Jets annual Goldfish Swallowing Contest, yes
coming soon.

I tried to get some information on the death of the late, great, Buddy
Knox, who sang the hit song "Party Doll" and found he died on Valentine's Day
of cancer. Buddy and many of his peers, recording stars of the 50s and 60s are
at the age when we will sadly start seeing many of them pass away. Bo Dittlie
is 70, Chuck Berry, Fats Domino, Jerry Lee Lewis, Little Richard all in that
age group. It will be interesting to see, Paul McCarty, when he's 64.

It was great to see Bob Harris, 69, get so much publicity over getting his
Rolling Stones, Picture signed. The local Daly papers, front page of last
weeks Eyewitness, several radio and TV appearances. All in the Name of Rock
and Roll.

Several up coming events are in the making or in the planning faze: Frank
Warriner is considering the second annual benefit putt-putt tournament. Tom
Dobrowolski already has plans under way for the Wayne Soap Box Derby, to be
held as part of the City of Wayne Wheelfest Festival in August. The big St.
Pats Party at the Over Time Saloon in Inkster. The Lucky 13 lounge in Dearborn
Heights has plans and tickets available for a bus trip to Tiger opening day
and the closing game in September, which will be the last game at historic
tiger stadium. Belleville and St. Anthony's Church are in full planing faze
for the Strawberry Festival in June. And don't want to miss the WCW Wrestling
at the Place, March, 27th Featuring Ric Flair, Hulk Hogan, Diamond Dallas
Page, Lex Luger and Goldberg.

Every morning, I cook my daughters breakfast. The word cook my be a stretch,
maybe I should say make breakfast, as in oatmeal and frozen waffles. But the
one on one time is important and often our best time of the day. Twelve grade
Daughter number one, the hardest one to talk to, gets up first eats the
oatmeal, a big improvement over pop tarts and coke, and she is off to school,
about the time daughter number two gets up. Third grade Daughter number two,
who still loves me, eats the frozen waffles, also an improvement over donuts,
the breakfast of choice. Life goes fast, so its important to spend time with
the ones you love, teach them to do the right things, and remind them that
dads cook, I mean make breakfast better than moms.

Which Ocean is west of the United States? What State is west of Ohio?
What is the Capitol of the United States? What is the Capitol of Canada? Is
the Red Sea an Ocean or a Sea? It seems most High School Students cannot
answer these type questions correctly. As I look through my third grade
daughters homework book, we can see the Pacific Ocean, Indiana, Washington,
Ottawa and a Sea. If a High School Student doesn't know the answers to these
questions, that's not a good sign yet maybe not totally the students fault. As
a parent I kind of fell its my job to get my kids to school, help with and
make sure homework is done. But it is still the teachers job to teach. If a
student doesn't learn, it means the teacher didn't teach.
The students grade is really the grade of how good the teacher did, teaching
that kid and before any kids start getting to excited, I also believe if you
don't try your best in school you should be somewhere else, maybe peeling
potatoes or making oatmeal!

Quick Stuff: My friend Phil the Westland TV repair man and Skid Marxx band is
still looking for a drummer call 734-326-5119 or [email protected]. Heard from
Bob Harris, who loved the ch 4, 60s Detroit show which featured Mitch Ryder,
the MC-5 and a clip of the Supreams on the Robin Symore TV show, Swinging
Time, with a dashing MR. Harris in the background. Saw Dan and Kathy Kovarik,
who first meet years ago at the Plymouth Balloon Festival watching Benny and
the Jets band.

You can see Benny and the Jets Sundays at Lucille's in Canton, Mondays at the
Catch in Taylor, Tuesdays at Reisers in Westland. Contact by phone

How cold was it? So cold that the World Wrestling Federation, canceled
there sold out show at the Joe Lewis Arena. So cold in the blizzard conditions
that no wrestler could use the Stone Cold Stunner, a hold made famous by WCW
outlaw the very popular Stone Cold Steve Austin. It's a new age of wrestling
superstars, The Sheik and Bo Bo Brazil replaced by the Mocho Man and Hulk
Hogan, who are now being replaced by Bill Goldberg and the dark, hideous,
6-foot-11, 338 pound Undertaker, whose death hold of choice is The Tombstone
Pile Driver.

The Fog spews, fireworks flash, speakers boom as the wrestlers step from
behind the curtain leading to the ring. Crowds remain in a frenzy long after
the ring announcer yells "Let's get rrrrreaddy to rrrrummmmbille!"  Remember
the WCW and WWF will sell 4 million tickets and make over $500 million this
year. The Year that Jesse "The Body" Ventura was elected Governor of
Minnesota.

Hey, I think the city of Belleville could use some professional wrestling.
As a write in mayoral candidate, If elected, I promise FREE Summer Slam with
Lex Luger, Sting, Hollywood Hogen and Sable (the riveting, X-rated, Woman
star) Live in Downtown Belleville. No better not, sounds to easy.

Here's a couple of quick thoughts. The new Krispy Kream donuts on Telegraph
in Dearborn Heights makes picture perfect, looking donuts. The Catch,
restaurant and Lounge in Taylor, serves venison, buffalo and alligator, which
tastes like chicken? Several other area restaurants serve chicken that tastes
like buffalo? Jim Green found an original unopened, 1970s, Benny and the Jet
album, at a record collectors shop. Mr. Randy who spent many years managing
the Arena and Showtime bars is now managing Cafe Hawaii on Michigan Avenue in
West Dearborn. The Arena sports bar at Ford and Telegraph is now the Fuel,
dance club. If you get a pierced tongue it hurts more the day after then the
piercing itself.

Heard about Jerry Graller, who lost his fight with cancer. Jerry was a
long time friend of local entertainer George Young, and encouraged George to
start his own band (George Young and the Youngsters) Jerry became the first
keyboard player in the group, which had its first gig at the Wayne Show Bar on
Michigan Avenue in Wayne, now Charlie's Too.

I just heard someone ask, How many days till Christmas? This year is going
fast. As soon as I'm done writing this Eyewitness Newspaper column, I'm going
to call the airlines and get my tickets set up for Las Vegas, which is
something I should have done weeks ago. I'm supposed to be out there to guest
host my friend JT the Brick's sports radio show, heard locally overnights on
WDFN am 1130. I should have plenty to talk about. The Lions, even with Barry
Sanders might be the worst team in the NFL. The Tigers, even with a
billionaire owner and a new stadium coming, might be the worst team in
baseball. The Pistons who just 10 years ago were one of the best teams in
basket ball, have suffered miserably, even with Grant Hill. The Red Wings,
well Detroit loved the Wings when they were the Dead Wings and we love them
more now. I'll be able to talk about Tommy Herns coming back and we can always
talk about U of M or even Michigan State now that they beat Ohio State.

More Ohio State bashing. Back in the 70s, I used to love to laugh at
Cleveland, there city, there team, when there river caught on fire. But they
have turned that city around. Even there baseball team is one of the best.
There Downtown is alive, lots   of people out have fun in a clean safe
environment, that even showcases there waterfront. Don't we wish we could say
the same about Detroit. You never see the water, countless burned out
buildings and do you ever feel safe? Its just not like that in other cities.
Even downtown New York, you just don't see buildings falling down on every
block.

Big Tony Wallace, the Tattoo guy who hangs out at the Catch, on Telegraph
in Taylor, says he was surprised how many people came into the night club,
saying they read about the wild game menu in last weeks paper. Tony says he
heard the folks that run the Rock and Roll hall of Fame, in Cleveland, now
wish they would have located it, in Detroit?

Heard from Jim via the E-mail. Jim says the Nankin Inn, on Ann Arbor Trill
was sold to developers, after more that 30 years in business. The Tri-City
restaurant, in the Cherry Hill and Inkster shopping center, is about to reopen
as Sam's Family Diner. The Tin Lizzy in Belleville and Daly's in Plymouth are
both soon to be Rite Aids and the Reflections on the Lake, restaurant is soon
to be the Belleville Cafe.

If you have something for the column call me at 313-730-1627 or E-mail at
[email protected]. See the web site at fast.to/bennyjets or the band Sundays at
Murphy's, in Dearborn Heights; Mondays at the Catch, in Taylor; Tuesdays at
Reiser's, in Westland; Wednesdays at Papa Chino's, on 8 mile west of
Telegraph.

People, places, things to do and talk about, right here in our Wayne County
Michigan, Eyewitness Newspaper area. Did you notice I never mentioned Engler
or Fieger and the thing they called an election? Did you hear Ted Nugent's
radio station has been sold, which might put him out of a job? Have you seen
the changes on Michigan Avenue in Dearborn ? Have you seen the new, old
fashion street lights on Plymouth Road? How about downtown Garden City, the
Ford Road and Middelbelt area? Buildings knocked down, new sidewalks with edge
walls, new street lights, a very big change. How about the changes in Newburg
Lake? After an18-month, $12-million cleanup and makeover, the lake is
officially open for public use-cleaner, deeper and healthier. Half a million
tons of sediment and thousands of tons of trash and fish have been dredged out
of the lake, which is created by a dam across the Middle Rouge River. The good
news is, it will be restocked with bass, bluegills, pike, walleye and other
game fish. The bad news is you wont be able to eat them and if sources of
pollution -- leaking septic tanks, sewage overflows, storm runoff-are not
controlled, Newburg Lake experiment will eventually be an expensive
disappointment.

Have you noticed I haven't mentioned Lesbians, Jerry Springer, Wally
Jackson, Elvis, Frankie's night club or John Glenn High School lately? Regular
readers will remember, I used to mention them often when we were fighting for
ratings. Everyone knows I will stoop to no low to attract more readers and
bigger ratings.

John Glenn beat Wayne High School, 34-0 this year. Reggie Spearmon rushed
for 188 yards on 24 carries, giving him 1,610 yards this season. Breaking the
single-season and career rushing records at John Glenn set by Tony Boles, who
went on to be a starter at U of M.

Heard from Big Tony Wallace, the Tattoo artist. Tony raves about the Catch
restaurant and lounge, on Telegraph one mile south of I-94 in Taylor. Seems
owner and popular area DJ, Lee has put together a unique mix of sound, sight
and taste. The tastes includes a wild game menu, with Venison, Duck, Pheasant,
Ostrich, Alligator, seafood and real Buffalo burgers. The sight includes 15-8'
fish tanks, a 28' 1941 Chriscraft Boat converted into a DJ booth, which
produces a state of the art light show and sound system.

Contact Benny and the Jets band at 313-730-1627 or on the web at
fast.to/bennyjets. Every Sunday at Murphy's, in Dearborn Heights; Monday at
the Catch in Taylor; Tuesdays at Reisers in Westland; Wednesdays at Pa pa
Chino's in Detroit; Friday and Saturday at the Lucky 13, in Dearborn Hights.
